Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay learned to love art from the aunt Denise. The aunt was on during the night shifts as a nursing assistant to ensure she could pursue her love for art literature and theater in the daytime. DuVernay quickly fell in love after showing her that 1961 West Side Story film. DuVernay discovered through her example the power of art as an avenue for action. DuVernay was educated by her mother, with a conscience for social issues, and encouraged DuVernay to show her creativity through art. DuVernay was born in Compton by her parents however, she spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama. This is the place where her father's family has been for generations. The father of DuVernay's reminiscences recalled the historical Civil Rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the neighboring town Selma Alabama. Her summers in Alabama's Selma be the inspiration for her later a film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990 DuVernay completed her studies at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. Following graduation, DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with degrees in English as well as African American study. DuVernay was a student at the college when she started to get fascinated by the production aspect of television journalism. She began as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay was appointed to monitor and investigate the residence of a particular member of the Jury. When she was dissatisfied with journalism due to the work she was handed, DuVernay decided to pursue an interest in public relations. DuVernay was hired straight after graduating from college as an intern at a small studio. Her first venture was The DuVernay Agency, her PR firm, in 1999. Her agency launched numerous promotions and lifestyle channels which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
